Canadian Foundation for Chinese Heritage Preservation

The Canadian Foundation for Chinese Heritage Preservation (the Foundation) is a Canadian registered charitable organization. The Foundation’s mandate is to promote Canadian interest in the education, appreciation and preservation of Chinese cultural relics and historical treasures.

China is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Its vast expanse of cultural wealth embodies some of mankind’s noblest achievements, transcending time and national boundaries. On the heels of heartfelt appreciation comes the natural desire to preserve the magnificence of eras gone by. Inspired by this vision, the Foundation was born in 1993.

In 1998, the Foundation signed the Canada-China Protocol on Cultural Heritage Preservation in the distinguished presence of the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, then Prime Minister of Canada, and the Honourable Zhu Rongji, then Premier of China. Much has been accomplished since.

Of note are the exhibitions “Masterpieces of 20th Century Chinese Paintings” and “Jade, the Ultimate Treasures of Ancient China.” The latter was exhibited in seven museums from coast to coast across Canada over a period of two and a half years.

With the help of the National Research Council of Canada, the Foundation contributed a 3D laser scanner to assist in the preservation of cultural relics and treasures in the Three Gorges area in China. This project twice attracted coverage by the Discovery Channel.

More recent accomplishments included the collaboration with the Canadian Museum of Civilization in their aptly named exhibition “Treasures from China.” At the community level, our increasingly popular annual photo contest of UNESCO designated heritage sites in China features memorable photographic images of these sites, thus making them a lasting legacy for generations to come.

The Foundation also organizes the China World Heritage Cultural Tours, and an annual fundraising gala, An Evening with Chinese Treasures, with live auctions conducted by Christie’s.
