Prakash Joshi was born in a rural area of India in the province of Gujarat. He studied medicine in Mumbai and did his postgraduate work in Boston and Philadelphia. The American Examining Board granted him certification as a medical specialist and he was granted certification as a respiratory disease specialist by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Canada.

Dr. Joshi has served as a board member on the New Brunswick Medical Society and has in the past served as president of the Saint John Medical Society.

Currently, Dr. Joshi is Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University and serves as the head of the Respiratory Division at the Atlantic Health Science Center in Saint John, New Brunswick. He has been practicing medicine in Saint John for 39 years.
